A completely new approach to our entry level training.

The future of communications is changing rapidly. To be successful in the advertising industry you need to have a broad understanding of all aspects of communication and develop the ability to work across a range of disciplines, in a fluid and integrated way.

So when you join JWT as a Future Pioneer you will be trained and spend 18 months working across 4 different specialisms: JWT London which will embrace advertising Planning, Account Management and Production ; Prism, where you will be immersed in the world of sports sponsorship and event marketing; Mirum, our digital specialists; and Colloquial who create and curate online content for some of the biggest clients there are.

What kind of roles do we have for you?


JWT London is the birthplace of Planning and home to one of the world’s largest and most diverse Planning departments.

Planners work closely with Clients, Creatives and Account Management, safeguarding the interests of consumers and championing ideas, so a critical love of creativity, numeracy and literacy skills and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of people are essential.

Core functions include: developing brand strategies to help clients' business performance through having an in-depth understanding of consumers’ behaviours and attitudes; handling data and analysing and synthesising it into actionable insights; writing and developing communications strategies and working closely with Creatives to help develop powerful ideas that come to life in any form. And of course, writing awards entries…

Account Management & Production

Account Management and Production is the focal point of the agency’s relationship with the client. They work as part of a team to understand and contribute to their business objectives with a compelling communications strategy, ultimately developing and delivering an effective creative solution.

They work with all other departments, from Planning and Creative to Finance, championing the strategy from concept to execution and driving the project from beginning to end. This means that one minute you could be on a shoot in London and the next on a video conference with Honduras discussing a social media campaign. It is your responsibility to relay information and maintain the client relationship throughout the process of creating work and beyond, and it is as much about nurturing and protecting the agency’s creative output as driving forward the client’s business. They are innately proactive and must be armed with a “can-do” attitude at all times. They are the people that find solutions to problems that enable good work to become great, or late running work to be delivered on time, on budget. They are obsessed with how to make things, the latest production techniques and technologies and are endlessly resourceful and love problem solving.

They are also passionate about brands and business. They have a point of view on how communications can contribute to achieving clients’ objectives and are great communicators themselves.

Ultimately they take overall leadership and responsibility for the agency’s relationship with the client, including the financial element, so commercial savvy completes the unique blend of skills that make up the very best JWT Account and Production Managers.

Training and ‘On the Job’ Work Experience

We believe that we have designed the very best entry level programme in the business, combining focussed structured training modules with practical learning by experience.

We want you to be ready not just for today, but for the future. During the 18 month programme you will rotate through our 4 different specialisms : JWT London, Prism, Colloquial and Mirum. You will gain essential industry qualifications from the Institute of Practitioners in Advertising (IPA) and throughout your career you will continue to participate in our award winning Continuous Professional Development (CPD) programme.

Our training programme is designed to fast track you into an operational role and if you’re anything like the trainees we’ve had in previous years, it won’t be long before you’re making waves in the industry. Our trainees have risen to become CEOs here at JWT and many other agencies.

You will study and take core industry qualifications such as the IPA Foundation Certificate: our previous Pioneers achieved the best results of any Creative agency. As your career develops we will support you to take all of the IPA qualifications so that you can achieve your chartered MIPA status: we know the importance of professionalism and proven expertise. You will receive a broad ranging introduction to the industry with visits to media owners such as Google, production companies and other key creative production partners. You will also visit and spend time with other partner WPP communications businesses including media. And what is so special about Future Pioneers is that as you rotate through Prism, Mirum and Colloquial you will learn in depth about Social, Content, Digital, Experiential and Sports Sponsorship. 

One of the really unique benefits of JWT’s programme is that you will train as part of a cohort working across the range of disciplines and specialisms meaning that your integrated knowledge and sense of fellowship across the JWT family is fostered immediately.

The programme culminates in two events. First, the week-long residential J.Walter Thompson International Craft Skills Seminar to consolidate your learning so far, which is hosted by a different JWT European office each year – Athens, Warsaw and Berlin are recent venues. You will work alongside counterparts from across the JWT global network on a live client brief and make lasting international friendships.

Second, the Chrissie Barker Award, which goes to the highest performer at the end of their first year. The prize is a two-week placement at a JWT office of your choice, anywhere in the world - Tokyo and Sydney have been recent winners’ picks.

JWT holds the highest industry training accolades: a record eight times IPA CPD Gold winner and current holder of five IPA Platinum Awards for sustained excellence in professional development. This means you will not find a better training programme in any other agency and we are passionate about your development throughout your career at JWT.

We’ll start you off with a competitive salary and a bonus on your first day plus 23 days holiday, life assurance, long-term disability insurance and health cover.
